DSTV Africa: No more SABC Africa, where is CNBC Africa?

MultiChoice has finally removed SABC Africa from its bouquets:

SABC AfricaSABC Africa Terminates on Dstv – 31st July 2008
MultiChoice and the SABC regret to announce that from 1 August 2008, the SABC Africa channel will no longer be carried on the DStv service.
Operation of the SABC Africa channel is no longer viable and MultiChoice and the SABC have agreed that the channel be withdrawn from the DStv bouquet.
MultiChoice is currently in negotiation with the SABC on an alternative channel and content agreements and once these are concluded will be communicated with DStv subscribers.
MultiChoice and SABC regret any inconvenience to subscribers.

Sad thing since this was the only pan-African news channel on DSTV Africa before now. I hope they replace it with SABC International or CNBC Africa in the near future.

CNBC Africa is Africa’s 1st 24hour business and financial TV network and broadcasts from South Africa. It is currently restricted to South Africa on DSTV’s platform, and broadcasts free-to-air via Sentech Vivid’s platform, across Africa.

  1. It is a sad state of affairs at the SABC indeed. Their corporate antics are worse than Paris Hilton on a bad hair day. And like with all bureaucracies the focus is more on the cult of personality rather then serving the needs of their audience (clients). That is why I have refused to pay a TV license for the last 8 years. Why give you money to these idiots?

      • Hey Kevin I’m not sure what you mean by “first and foremost you are not an African.” Since I was born in South Africa, and my parents, and grand parents were all born in South Africa, that alone makes me just as much African as you my friend. Your showing a dangerous narrow minded approach close to racism instead of respect.
