Areeba Ghana’s website

I was on Areeba’s main international website on Sunday morning and noticed the newly introduced drop-down menu that allows visitors to select the Areeba country website they want to browse. Naturally, I selected Ghana, and that is how the story began.

After Areeba Ghana re-branded from Spacefon Areeba to Areeba last year, they simply changed the logo on their website from “Spacefon Areeba” to “Areeba”. The website still retained the mainly blue look and feel that came with the old Spacefon brand. With the new look of their website however, there has been a sweeping change. The website now has the colours of the new Areeba brand and looks way better than the old site.

The background is mainly white and the text grey. The navigation is still made-up mainly of a drop-down menu at the top of the page but the information has been recategorized and info is much more easier to find. There are now sub-sections on the left panel of the website that offer more links about a category the visitor is surfing at a particular time. The news on the website have been entered into a database. One can only hope the news section would be updated more often. The site now also comes with a Site Map as well as a privacy policy.

The site now runs on ASP.NET scripting/database system unlike the plain old HTML that was hitherto being used.

Information about their GoLive (MMS) and Mobile Office (GPRS) is still not available on their website as a click on it shows the notice, “coming soon”.

Another down-side is the fact that the web address www.spacefon.com is still independent and only duplicates whats on www.areeba.com.gh They should have used a 301 redirect so the search engines (especially Google) don’t ban them for duplicate content.

In a nutshell, the new interface of Areeba Ghana’s website is way better than the old one.

Not too long ago, I blogged about Buzz / Mobitel GSM’s website. It makes me want to ask, Have these cellcos moved their competition to their websites?

Well, its all well and good.
