For once, we asserted ourselves

A news item I read on the BBC News website this morning made my day. The BBC titled their story: Gaddafi in Nigeria airport drama.

Nigerian officials say Col Gaddafi was accompanied by more than 200 heavily armed Libyan bodyguards.

When security officers refused to allow them to keep their weapons, an argument ensued and Col Gaddafi stormed off.

Only when Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo intervened did the bodyguards agree to hand in their weapons.

Thank God, for once, we asserted ourselves.  Under no circumstances should the Nigerian officials have allowed 200 heavily armed bodyguards into our country. Do they want to take us over? Haba! Ki lo de? Wetin happen?

  1. It is amazing to think of the cheek of arriving in another country with this gang of armed thugs! I wonder if Obasanjo would be allowed the same in Libya? I know most if not all head of states always travel with their security who are general armed with small weaponry – the usual body guards but to bring your own personal army is outrageous and yes for once Nigeria said no. But would they have done the same to say Mr GW Bush or Tony Blair?
