Free Super Broadband in Accra Mall, Ghana

MainOne “Feel The Impact” broadband promo for Accra Ghana

MainOne Cable Company is set to launch a free broadband promo from  14th to 26th March inside Accra Mall, in collaboration with a local partner BusyInternet. The promo is similar to what they unleashed in The Palms Mall Lekki Nigeria in December 2010.

The promo is meant to bring the high-speed experience possible via MainOne, directly to end-users. Though MainOne does not sell internet bandwidth directly to end-users, the promo intends to sensitize people so they in turn can pressurize their Internet Service Provider (ISP) to switch to MainOne. Already, a few ISPs use MainOne in Ghana: Teledata ICT, BusyInternet, Ecoband Networks.

Visitors to the Accra Shopping Mall with Wi-Fi enabled devices (laptops, tablet PCs, smartphones) would be able to access the internet and enjoy superfast surfing within the mall.

Ghana News Agency (GNA) quotes MainOne’s country manager Mr Joseph Odoi as saying:

“MOCC provides an answer to the increasing yearnings of Ghanaians for a fast, reliable and affordable broadband internet connection. ‘The Feel the Impact’ promotion reflects our commitment to ensure that Ghanaians tap into the benefits of broadband internet revolution offered by the company…”

The MainOne cable is an undersea fibre optics cable system stretching from Portugal to Nigeria with a landing in Ghana. Other landings are planned for more West African countries, and there are plans to extend the cable system to South Africa. MainOne competes with SAT3 and glo-1 in West Africa.

  1. tried it and it really is good. i just wonder if retailers would provide such speeds to the end users cos i’m getting like about 2Mb and i wonder if Tigo, who has subscribed to MOCC would be able to give me such speeds. i’m just hoping for the best

  2. Well I have been several times now and I can’t say it is really that fast. In fact yesterday it was quite slow telling me a 12mb download will take 1 hour. The other thing is that they appear to disconnect you once you’ve been on for a certain time or possibly used up a limit?
    My MTN is faster!

    • They have the capacity but the blunt truth is that the wifi routers they’re using in Accra mall are poorly configured. The bandwidth is not evenly distributed through out the mall.

I was there last week and got 4MB/s in downloads. That’s 4 times what I’d get from MTN. At other times, the bandwidth dropped to 16kb/s.

  3. HI, WE’VE WAITED FOR SO LONG.NOW THAT YOU ARE IN, HOW DOES HYDRAFORM GHANA GET CONNECTED TO YOUR SUPER BROADBAND INTERNET SERVICE FOR OUR USAGE IN THE COMPANY?

  4. i am very happy glo si coming and i would like to be part of the glo family. i will like to know their e-mail address so that i can forward in my application to work with them in ghana. Thank you
